Our intensive outpatient program can be a great option for people who experience from less severe substance abuse issues.  This course of treatment allows the most flexibility and the client can receive treatment while still living at home.

What Happens in an IOP?

In an intensive outpatient program (IOP), patients attend classes focusing on psychotherapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy. Relapse prevention strategies like recognizing drug abuse triggers and developing coping skills for difficult situations.

Depending on the situation, medication management may also be used to help the person deal with uncomfortable cravings or mental health issues. The classes typically involve lectures, discussion groups, art therapy classes, or 12-step meetings led by trained therapists or counselors who specialize in drug addiction counseling.

During these sessions, participants learn about the nature of their addiction as well as effective strategies for avoiding relapse down the road, such as mindfulness.  Additionally, most programs also offer family counseling services so that loved ones can get involved in the recovery process too!

Other treatment services offered during an IOP treatment plan can include the following:

  • Yoga classes
  • Meditation classes
  • Art therapy groups
  • Family therapy
  • Support groups
  • Case management
  • Interventions
  • Educational seminars focused on addiction recovery topics

How long do IOPs last?
